MISSION ESTATE JEWELSTONE CABERNET MERLOT 2009
The splendid 2009 vintage (5*) is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (54 per cent), Merlot (39 per cent) and Cabernet Franc (7 per cent), grown in the Gimblett Gravels and matured in French oak casks (half new). Dark and powerful, with layers of blackcurrant, plum, spice and nut flavours, it shows wonderful ripeness and richness, with good tannin support. It should flourish for at least a decade; open 2013+.
June 2011 saw the results of a Hong Kong masterclass led by Lisa Perotti-Brown MW which tasted Gimblett Gravels 2009 vintage wines alongside clarets from the 2008 vintage, including the five first growths. Coming in third place.
