95/100 – Bob Campbell MW
“Single Barrel is a blend of six grape varieties: cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, syrah, rubin and mavrud. Curiously they make around 16 barrels of this wine each year. Dense, purple-hued wine that looks much younger than its age of six years. Rich, ripe and flavoursome red with a dense. almost chewy texture suggesting old vine material. Dark berry, wood smoke, old leather, tar and spice characters. An intriguing wine that’s clearly got plenty of life ahead of it.” – Bob Campbell MW
Tasting Note: Impenetrable dark ruby color, sweet fruit on the nose, touched with gamey richness and oak and leather. Well defined and very nicely composed substance on the palate, a raft of sweet plumy fruit with a firm and attractive character. Impression of a fragrance is confirmed by the taste sensations that continue and grow long after the first sip of this divine wine. Nicely balanced, the wine has very good potential indeed.
